‘Ach Gott und Herr’ was written for 15 string players in 2011. The piece is based on a Bach-chorale (BWV 48) which has a particular harmonization in Bach’s oeuvre. Although each section of the piece is traceable to the original chorale, this piece is not couple of variations, in the conventional sense. The musical process is built up in reverse: we arrive to the original melodies and harmonies of the Bach chorale with decomposition and rearrangement of the beginning (complex) musical material. These sections are inspired by some fine art techniques, and by how differently these techniqes form the final creation. Filling a blank canvas with colours (painting), removal of the exess from a shapeless block of marble (sculpture) or giving sense to some tiny pieces of glass (which may have their own meaning and order already) with rearranging them (mosaics) – the musical analougues of these fine arts progresses give the musical sound processes during the piece. And we may have the insight already during the creation into the final creature, the finished masterpiece (painting, sculpture), which is being symbolized – for short moments – by the Bach chorale.

In 2011 the piece was performed by Anima Musicae Chamber Orchestra at the ‘Summa Cum Laude Festival in Musikverein, Vienna.

‘Ach Gott und Herr’ won the 1st prize at the Wiener Konzerthaus’s composing competition  „Towards the Next 100 Years”, and in 2013 it was performed by Wiener Kammerorchester in the Mozart-Saal of Konzerthaus, Vienna.
